New Approach to Performance Management

In the modern 21st century business, performance management is no longer an issue of only internal development. The modern approach of performance management includes the development of all the stakeholders associated with the organisation i.e. the customer, business partners, vendors etc.

With the development and interference of technology in the day to day business, customers can directly access systems within the organisation, like internet banking e.t.c. Hence, customers are effectively running the organisation by choosing appropriate channel.

Most of the organisations now are outsourcing their important activities like accounting, manufacturing and R&D. Even the innovation that creates a competitive edge, are created by outsiders for the company.

As there is high level of interconnectivity among business, the performance management system that focuses on internal hierarchical growth has become obsolete concept.

Hence, as the business operates in network, performance management system should focus on all its various stakeholders. Importance should be given to the question on “How can we optimize our performance for one group of stakeholders?” This will result in the real performance growth of the organisation in modern networked business world.

FUTURE SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

I was on my way back to Howrah from Dhanbad. 5.35 pm was my train. The Shatabdi Express, a high profile esteemed nation’s pride, that does not wait for its passengers for more than 5 minutes whether you get inside completely or drop your sandal on railway track.

What happened? It sounds strange?

This was what exactly happened to me that day.

They were two Marwari ladies, a pair of BAA and TULSI you can say. I guessed they were MAROs by their ManiBen.com (do not click if the link appearsJ) style of talking, their bulk of luggage and jewelries. Firstly, BAA entered with two trolley bags, unfortunately followed by me, more unfortunately followed by TULSi with another two baggage and suddenly the most unfortunately thing happened to me and my one sandal fell down on the track.

(Was he suicidal? How selfish he was. He even did not care for his partner or may be he wanted to get rid of his girl friend and got a good timing for thatJ)

I shouted (really, I shouted) and asked the attendants of Shatabdi (rather you can say my attendants for 4 hoursJ), but no body could help me out. After all who would like to get down to the track through the side of the standing train? In fact no one could. It was narrow.

Tulsi, suggested me to call any of my relative in Dhanbad to take out my single sandal from the track and later give that to me. Sorry Tulsi! We are not marwaries.

Then the “the man in black”- the T.T.E suggested me to take the help of “KANGLAs”. They call them so or in the words of Danny Boyle -Future Millionaire from Slum.

(See the irony, “kangla” is an antonym of ‘millionaire”)

We called ONE and THEY came running. We told our problem to them and the thinnest of all brought back my single abandoned sandal.

(Wow! It was a happy ending; he is back for his girl friend or bach kar kaha jayega bacchuu?)

Hats off to the kid! I gave him 10 bucks. He was happy. I wished to see his happy and complacent face like Jamal had in “SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE”.

Yes of course I must wish, because, neither the Marwari duo nor the shatabdi experts could help me out but another millionaire in making.

And I remembered the poem from Rahim

Rahiman dekh Baden ko Laghu na Dijiye DAAR,

Jahan Kaam Avey Sui, Ka kari Sakat Talwar?”

(Do not ignore small things even if you have option of bigger one, because when you need a needle, you can not replace it with a sword.)

And then the train left for its destination.

Is corruption is integrated with Indian administration and politics?

My concern is not new. Since I had understood the Indian politics and administration, I could see how corruption is growing as a parasite with the country’s administration.

We can see on one side the GDP of Bihar being 11.2, the second highest and on other side we have CM like Madhu Koda who is involved in Rs 5000 Crore scam and newly appointed CM who is an accuse of a murder. One can easily predict the future of such state which is the core of heavy engineering and richest in minerals and coal

Another latest and a big issue on corruption we can see as the case of Ruchika Girhotra. After 16 years of the incidence common people have to firefight with the judiciary system of India for right punishment to SPS Rathore.

The important question is why it was not done 16 years ago. Same is the situation for Babri masjid demolition and Bhopal gas tragedy which has now become history. But still the case is living while few accused are no more alive.

If this is the scenario of law and order and justice as well in India, how can it motivate youngsters to participate in Indian political system?

It has become a catch 22 situation. Youngsters are not interested in politics due to corruption prevailed in it and corrupt politics is not being uprooted due to non involvement of sincere youngster.

Hence, Indian government and the people have to sort out a middle path for a peaceful quality political system.

CAT vs MOUSE
‘No CAT talks till DEC -7’, this was a non disclosure disclaimer on CAT exam by IIMs now it’s about CAT we can hear all over.
Yes, it is about CATastrophe that took place in the initial days of most awaited Common Admission Test for IIMs and other management institutes.
CAT, known for its surprises every year by its questions, has troubled its candidates as the technical snag has put more than 45000 students by now into distress.
Under preparedness of PROMETRIC, global provider of comprehensive testing and assessment, to which CAT was outsourced and which conducts GRE and GMAT tests, has put the fate of all 2.4 lakh students at stake.
It seems that it will take 2-3 years for CAT committee to conduct online test. The best option will be to conduct CAT through out the year like Graduate Record Exam and GMAT which has flexibility to take test on any of the prescribed dates within a year.
